The nation’s green hydrogen policy, formulated with a comprehensive support structure, lays down the blueprint for a hydrogen-powered future. Backed by the government’s approval, the policy earmarks INR 19,744 Crores to boost production, research, and adoption across various sectors.
Central and state-level policies synergize to create an ecosystem conducive for green hydrogen development. From fiscal incentives to regulatory frameworks, the aim is clear: to position India as a global hydrogen hub. States like Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu have rolled out attractive policies, positioning themselves as hotspots for green hydrogen projects.
With the National Green Hydrogen Mission in full swing, the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has initiated key tenders to stimulate local manufacturing and green hydrogen production. The overwhelming response from industry giants and startups alike underscores the burgeoning confidence in green hydrogen’s potential.
India’s corporate sector is not far behind, with commitments pouring in for 5.3 MTPA of green hydrogen production. This enthusiasm is mirrored in the investment landscape, with an estimated INR 9.5 Lakh Crores required to meet the ambitious 5 MMTPA hydrogen target by 2030.
However, this path is not without its hurdles. From infrastructural to technological challenges, India’s green hydrogen ambitions face a complex web of challenges. Yet, the nation remains steadfast, driven by the vision of a sustainable and self-reliant energy future.
